F
is for Fairest Jesus
Most sublime of the fair
More lovely than earth’s beauties—
So treasured, wondrous, rare.
Christ’s beauty is eternal;
His loveliness ne’er fades;
His way is everlasting—
Shining to endless days.
Cast off each trifling sham, then,
That vies for chiefest place
Thy God—eternal, perfect—
Offers more glorious grace!
Fruit offered from God's Spirit
Doth ne’er corrupted grow;
Life-giving water from within
He’s poured into your soul!
Taste Him; forsake all others;
Cling only to His way,
With joy meet Jesus in His Word;
Walk in His narrow way.
Value His smile chiefly;
Seek His approving nod—
Establish thus your pathway
In ways that please thy God.
He’s fairer than earth’s treasures—
Corrupting, fading, gone--
Cast down your dreams and longings:
He’ll fill your heart with song!
The speech of dying men who scorn
And brands of death do send
Will vanish as your eyes behold
This fairest and eternal Friend!
Then, ever in eternity,
Where you behold His face
Your sacrifice will seem so small
In that fair land of grace!
"Thou art fairer than the children of men:
grace is poured into thy lips:
therefore God hath blessed thee for ever"
--Psalm 45:2.
