A Fruitful Harvest

As fruit trees in an orchard that gives much fruit indeed

Are singles in Christ’s service, whose lives from sin are freed.

The Savior’s careful pruning of hurtful habits’ harms

Makes better yet His orchard and fills it with His charm.

Bright-hued and ornamented, their loveliness extends

For miles round the countryside, to which a crop they send.

Christ’s beauty rests upon them; they’re showered oe’r with grace

And all who gaze upon them see reflected there Christ’s face.

While verdant valleys glisten with Christ the Savior’s care

And lovely fountains sparkle within the open air,

Yet in the orchard’s fruit trees, is contained the hidden seed

That will, in some years blossom and bring much fruit indeed!

For hours on the hillside they’re able now to spend,

Soaking in the sunshine and bringing fruit to men.

They’re tended by the Master’s care; His Son works good through them,

And every harvest they can bring fresh fruit anew again.

Look upward, then, ye fruit trees in the orchard of the Lord

Each year, such great abundance, your harvest doth afford!

Your time spend soaking in God’s Son and giving then to men

The fruit produced in you by Him, Whose goodness to you sends.

Take heart; consider future years and generations more

That you shall meet in Heaven, on eternity’s fair shore,

Blessed then you’ll be exceedingly by Christ the Husbandman

Whose strength He gave that you might bring such lovely fruit to Him.
